Editorial Policy

1. Research
Every article on PFASFilterGuide.com is based on primary sources. We cite EPA publications, peer-reviewed scientific studies, NSF International certification databases, and manufacturer technical specifications.
We do not cite secondary summaries, press releases, or marketing materials as the basis for health or regulatory claims. When a claim comes from a government source, we link directly to that source.
Primary source examples used on this site:
- EPA PFAS regulations and MCLs at epa.gov/pfas
- NSF International certified product listings at nsf.org
- USGS groundwater quality data
- Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) PFAS toxicological profiles
- EWG Tap Water Database at ewg.org/tapwater
2. Drafting
Content is drafted by the PFASFilterGuide Editorial Team. Our team focuses on PFAS regulations, water filtration technology, EPA standards, and consumer water safety.
All regulatory claims are verified against EPA.gov before publication. All filter performance claims are verified against NSF International certification records or published manufacturer test data.
3. Expert review
We are actively recruiting an Environmental Engineer or Toxicologist with water quality expertise to serve as our technical reviewer. Until that role is filled, regulatory and health content is checked directly against:
- EPA.gov for all PFAS regulatory information
- NSF International certification database for filter performance claims
- USGS groundwater publications for geological and contamination data
- EWG research database for health guideline comparisons
We do not publish health guidance that goes beyond what is supported by EPA, ATSDR, or peer-reviewed sources.
See our reviewer page for information on our open reviewer recruitment.
4. Verification
All PFAS regulatory claims on this site are checked against EPA.gov.
All filter performance claims are checked against NSF International's certification database before publication. We do not accept manufacturer claims at face value without a corresponding NSF certification or independent test result.
If we cannot verify a claim, we do not publish it.
5. Update schedule
Pages are reviewed quarterly or when EPA regulations change. All articles display a "Last reviewed" date. If a page has not been updated in over a year and the regulatory environment has changed, we mark it as needing review.
The EPA PFAS rule finalized in April 2024 changed several benchmarks on this site. We updated affected pages within 30 days of the final rule publication.
6. Affiliate disclosure
PFASFilterGuide.com participates in affiliate programs including the Amazon Associates Program. We earn a commission when a reader clicks a link on this site and makes a purchase. This commission does not change our editorial rankings or recommendations.
Commercial relationships are disclosed on every product page and review. Products ranked on this site are ranked based on performance criteria, certifications, and consumer value, not on commission rates.
We do not accept payment for editorial placements. We do not accept free products in exchange for guaranteed positive reviews.
